Arisi paruppu sadam is a traditional one pot recipe mainly from the kongu region in Tamilnadu Is made with rice , dal and mild spices making it a comfort food ,Even though my husband is not a fan of one pot rice recipes , he loves this sadam. This recipe is inspired from Chef Madampatty Rangaraj
Ingredients
Ponni boiled rice -1 cup
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Water - 3 1/2 cup to 4 cups
Shallots -15
Garlic -6 cloves

Green chilli -2 nos
Sambar powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Red chilli -3
Tomato - 1 medium sized
Curry leaves
Sambar powder - 1 1/2 tbsp

Coriander leaves
Ghee -1 tsp
oil - 1 tbsp
Grated coconut -1 tbsp
How to prepare
- Wash dal and rice separately
- Soak dal for 30 min and rice for 15 min
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker
- Add mustard seeds , let them splutter
- Add the cumin seeds , red chilli , curry leaves , shallots ,garlic and slitted green chilli.Saute for 2 min
- Add the chopped tomato and cook till it turns soft and mushy
- Add turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt .Mix it well
- Add the soaked dal and water .Allow it to cook for 5 min
- Add the soaked rice , pressure cooker for two whistles or until it's done
- Once pressure releases ,open and add the coriander leaves, some coconut and ghee
- mix well and serve it hot
Tips
I like the arisi paruppu to be grainy .I have added 3 1/2 cup .The quantity of water can be adjusted
